About the Location
Located in Darwin, Minnesota, with a population around 330 and estimated 10 miles of maintained roadways, this project focused on preserving relatively new asphalt pavements before they reached the point where chip seal treatment would typically be required. The project was completed by Bargen Incorporated using BioSpan's RePlay pavement rejuvenator.

The Challenge:
Roads were less than five years old and did not yet require chip seal treatment. The owner wanted a proactive preservation strategy to extend pavement performance.
The Solution:
Bargen Incorporated recommended and applied RePlay using their BioSpan Spray System truck over a 3–4 day application period.
The Result:
The treatment produced a uniform appearance, cured as expected, and performed well in the field. The project also delivered an estimated savings of approximately $1 per square yard compared to chip seal and fog seal alternatives.
Customer Testimonial:
“We were looking for a way to proactively preserve our newer asphalt before more extensive maintenance was needed. RePlay gave us a uniform application, cured as expected, and provided a cost-effective preservation option. We were pleased with the results and the overall application.”
— Darwin Township, Minnesota

Project Breakdown
Bargen Incorporated selected RePlay to preserve five-year-old asphalt pavements that were still in good condition. Because the roads were not yet candidates for chip sealing, the team sought a solution that could maintain pavement condition and delay more intensive maintenance activities.
RePlay was applied using a BioSpan Spray System truck over the course of approximately three to four days. The completed application demonstrated a consistent, uniform appearance and cured according to expectations. Field observations indicated the treatment performed successfully following installation.
The project also offered a cost advantage, with estimated savings of roughly $1 per square yard compared to chip seal and fog seal treatments, making it an effective option for early-stage pavement preservation.
